Courtesy of the USDA Economic Research Service, the reports below display results from the latest inventory of major land usage in Florida in 2002. All numbers below are per 1,000 acres of usage, and encompass the 2.3 billion total acres of land in the U.S.

How Florida Compares to Other States

  • Florida ranked 32nd in Crop Land Usage by using 3,716,000 acres of land in 2005. The average for all states for Crop Land Usage was 8,658,000 acres.


  • Florida ranked 19th in Pasture Land Usage by using 4,701,000 acres of land in 2005. The average for all states for Pasture Land Usage was 11,500,000 acres.


  • Florida ranked 23rd in Forest Land Usage by using 14,636,000 acres of land in 2005. The average for all states for Forest Land Usage was 12,768,000 acres.


  • Florida ranked 14th in Special Land Usage by using 4,509,000 acres of land in 2005. The average for all states for Special Land Usage was 5,820,000 acres.


  • Florida ranked 3rd in Urban Land Usage by using 3,960,000 acres of land in 2005. The average for all states for Urban Land Usage was 1,168,000 acres.


  • Florida ranked 9th in Other Land Usage by using 2,992,000 acres of land in 2005. The average for all states for Other Land Usage was 4,477,000 acres.
