Vitter: Obama Administration Tries to Sneak In 2010 NEPA-GHG Guidance Before the Holidays74300

U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, made the following statement regarding the Council on Environmental Quality's (CEQ) decision to reissue a controversial 2010 outline guidance that would dramatically expand the scope of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) by requiring agencies to address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in NEPA reviews.

"The Obama Administration is attempting to increase federal authority beyond NEPA's original intent and further slow down job-creating plans in this last-ditch effort to appease its far-left environmental base right before the holidays," said Vitter. "Not only did the Administration fail to learn anything from the recent elections, but CEQ apparently wants to move forward with guidance that is certain to slow plans and make building anything in this country more expensive. This is certain to hurt job creation and economic growth."

In May 2014, Vitter, along with Sens. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), sent a letter to Acting CEQ Chairman Michael Boots urging CEQ to withdraw its February 2010 outline guidance. Click here to read more.
