Washington, D.C. -- Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the statement below after the Senate voted to sustain President Obama's veto of S.1, a bill to approve the Keystone tar sands pipeline. The 62 to 37 vote failed to reach the two-thirds majority required to override a Presidential veto.

Senator Boxer said: "I'm glad Republican leadership failed to override President Obama's veto of the Keystone XL pipeline, which does nothing for Americans and is a gift for Canadian big oil interests. It is time Republicans brought up legislation that will help Americans, like a Hwy. bill or an equal pay for equal work bill."
