Inhofe Praises Passage of Amendment Prohibiting Federal Tax on Carbon

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, released the following statement praising the passage of Senator Roy Blunt's (R-Mo.) amendment #928 to the Senate budget resolution in a vote of 58 to 42:

"Once again, a majority of Congress has spoken out against a carbon tax. E.P.A. has already admitted that unilateral action by the U.S. to reduce carbon emissions will have no impact on global emissions, especially as China alone is expected to bring a new coal-fired power plant online every ten days for the next nine years. These facts indicate that harmful policies, like a carbon tax are not about protecting the environment or the health of local citizens. These policies are about appeasing political supporters and expanding the government's control. The only Americans that stand to benefit from the federal government imposing policies that unilaterally tax or otherwise restrict domestic carbon missions are green energy venture capitalists and major political contributors to Democratic campaigns. I thank Senator Blunt for his leadership on this issue, and I'm proud to stand with him in protecting American families and businesses from such a misguided policy."

Amendment #928 protects the U.S. from a federal tax or fee on carbon.
