E.P.W. Committee Approves S. 1140, the Federal Water Quality Protection Act

WASHINGTON, DC - In a committee markup of the 114th Congress, U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, praised the full committee passage of S. 1140, the Federal Water Quality Protection Act, by a vote of eleven to 9:

"I thank my colleagues for their support of Senator John Barrasso's bipartisan legislation to scale back E.P.A. overreach. Our committee has held more hearings on the 'waters of the United States' rule than any other issue so far this Congress. This bill passed out of committee at a time when it is imperative for Congress to act in cutting red tape and to prevent E.P.A. from expanding its own authority, without Congressional authorization. The Federal Water Quality Protection Act will keep the focus of the Clean Water Act about protecting navigable water from pollution, preserve our clean water, and prevent E.P.A. from using the WOTUS rule as a tool to control land or isolated water. I look forward to working with my colleagues to achieve a veto proof majority of the bill, and to bringing S. 1140 to the Senate floor for consideration."
