Washington, D.C.- U.S. Representative Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., ranking Republican on the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, issued the following statement following the House Energy and Business Committee's failure to pass a resolution of inquiry that would have required the Administration to provide to Congress documents, details and an explanation justifying its project to close the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste facility.
"It's disappointing that the Administration is walking away from the federal government's 30-year, $10 billion investment in the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste facility. What's worse is that the Administration has continuously refused Congressional requests for documents, details and an explanation to justify its change in nuclear waste policy. The Energy and Business Committee should have pressed the Administration for answers by passing the resolution today. However, I look forward to working in a bipartisan fashion to ensure these answers are delivered as soon as possible."
