Washington, D.C. -- Today Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released a letter from the AFL-CIO that lays out the organization's serious concerns with S. 697, the Udall-Vitter toxic chemicals bill.

The AFL-CIO letter states that "workers face some of the highest risks from exposure to toxic chemicals" and specifically focuses on the bill's flaws regarding the preemption provisions, which would greatly restrict the ability of states to take action to protect their citizens from toxic chemicals. The letter explains that: "...the legislation has serious flaws and deficiencies that would thwart and undermine future chemical control efforts and fails to adequately protect the public and workers from exposure to toxic chemicals."
