Feds, State and Local Partners Highlight Impaired Wetlands near Sacramento, California During Field Sampling This Week

SAN FRANCISCO -The E.P.A. will host a press availability on Thursday, June Second to highlight field sampling being conducted near Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in Elk Grove, California as part of the National Wetlands Conditions Assessment.

Approximately 95 percent of historic wetlands and riparian habitats in California have been destroyed or modified. The NWCA is an assessment of wetland condition being performed in every state for the 1st time ever. In excess of 1,000 sites across the country are being tested for a variety of indicators of wetland health, including vegetation, soils, water quality, algae, and hydrology.
