DALLAS - (Sept. 11, 2014) The E.P.A. (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy will travel to Corrales and Santa Fe on Monday to support state and federal partnerships that are protecting local communities and improving environmental coordination. Administrator McCarthy will join Congressman Ben Ray Lujan and representatives from the Southern Sandoval Co. Arroyo Flood Control Authority to commemorate the Lower Montoyas Water Quality Feature Project. The plan will help remove sediment that has historically increased the risk of flooding at the Corrales Road crossing of the Harvey Jones Channel and create a new open space area for the local community. The project, made possible by an E.P.A. Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund, incorporates a number of "green build" and Low Impact Development (LID) concepts to provide a functional flood control facility that enhances the environment.
Later that morning, Administrator McCarthy will give the keynote address at the Environmental Council of States (ECOS) Fall Meeting in Santa Fe, highlighting EPA's work with states on recent agency initiatives to curb carbon emissions. ECOS serves a critical role in relationship building between federal and state agencies to meet their shared mission to protect public health and the environment.
