Agency Highlights water conservation in the city of Fresno, reducing water use by 25%
LOS ANGELES - U.S. E.P.A. Regional Administrator Jared Blumenfeld, along with Fresno Public Utilities Director Thomas Esqueda, and the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), will declare millions in backing to the state that will enhance local water infrastructure and control water pollution statewide resulting in significant public health benefits, especially to the San Joaquin Valley. The backing announced today will be used for a wide variety of water quality projects, including pollution control, water and energy efficiency projects, drinking water infrastructure improvements, technical assistance, and traditional municipal wastewater treatment projects.
In addition, E.P.A. will highlight $51 Million to the state that was used to conserve water through the installation of water meters in communities within the City of Fresno. On January 17 Governor Brown declared a drought state of emergency and state law requires home water meters by 2025. Since the installation of the meters was completed in 2014, water usage has decreased by 25%.
