E.P.A. to hold meetings, public hearing on designation of Michindoh aquifer as sole source of drinking water
Chicago (Jan. 5, 2010) -- E.P.A. Region five will hold 2 public meetings and a public hearing next week on its suggested decision to designate the Michindoh aquifer as the sole source of drinking water for an area comprising 9 counties including parts of Allen, DeKalb and Steuben counties in Indiana; Branch, Hillsdale and Lenawee counties in Michigan; and Defiance and Fulton counties, and all of Williams Co. in Ohio. The public review period on the suggested decision has been extended until Jan. 29.
An informational public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 12, from seven to nine p.m., at Hudson High School Cafeteria, 771 N. Maple Grove, Hudson, Mich.
The formal hearing will be from eight to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, New Era Auditorium, 520 W. Mulberry St., Bryan, Ohio. An informal public meeting will be held ahead of the hearing at the same location from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
When an aquifer is designated the sole or principal source of drinking water for an area, E.P.A. must review all federally funded plans in the area to determine potential for contaminating the aquifer. No federal funds may be spent on plans which E.P.A. determines may contaminate the aquifer.

High St., Bryan, Ohio; Hillsdale Community Library, eleven E. Bacon Saint Hillsdale, Mich., Lenawee Co. Library, 4459 W. U.S. 223, Adrian, Mich.; and Butler Public Library, 340 S. Broadway, Butler, Ind.
