(Kansas City, Kan., Sept. 24, 2012) - E.P.A. Region seven is requesting public review on a suggested decision to restore a portion of the River des Peres in metropolitan Saint Louis to the list of impaired waters for Missouri. The Agency found the river segment inadvertently omitted from Missouri's impaired waters submittal. E.P.A. previously approved Missouri's listing of 253 waters as impaired, and the removal of 66 water bodies from the list.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources submitted its 2012 impaired waters list to E.P.A. for review and approval. The Clean Water Act and federal regulations require E.P.A. to review the state's list to determine if the state reasonably considered existing and readily accessible water quality-related data and information, and reasonably identified waters to be listed.
The 30-day public review period on EPA's suggested decision begins today and ends Oct. 24, 2012.
A link to the public notice is accessible on the E.P.A. Region seven
website. E.P.A. will consider written public comments in reaching its final decision on the additional water body identified for inclusion on Missouri's final 2012 impaired waters list.
