WASHINGTON - U.S. E.P.A. Administrator Gina McCarthy and Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) Jo-Ellen Darcy will testify today in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on the suggested Clean Water Rule.
Sixty percent of streams and millions of acres of wetlands across the country aren't clearly protected from pollution and destruction. One in 3 Americans get their drinking water from these streams that are vulnerable. To have clean water downstream in the rivers and lakes in our neighborhoods we need healthy headwaters upstream. That is why the E.P.A. and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have suggested to strengthen protections for the clean water that is vital to all Americans.
