E.P.A. encourages participation at free CONSUMER electronics recycling events throughout southeast in february

(ATLANTA - February 1, 2007) E.P.A. Region four is proud to support upcoming consumer electronics recycling collection events sponsored by Hewlett Packard (HP)-an E.P.A. Plug-In To eCycling partner. WeRecycle!, Inc., Hewlett Packard (HP), and Wal-Mart will hold twelve consumer electronics recycling collection events at Wal-Mart stores throughout the Southeast during February. The events will be free for residents in the surrounding communities.


The following communities will have events during February:
· Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Brooksville, Fla., Columbus, Ga., Augusta, Ga. - February 3;
· Rome, Ga., Valdosta, Ga., Douglasville, Ga., North Charleston, S.C., - February 10;
· Greensboro, N.C., Hickory, N.C., Kannapolis, N.C., Hendersonville, N.C., - February 24.

"EPA celebrates this partnership in working together towards a common goal to protect the environment," said Jimmy Palmer, E.P.A. Regional Administrator. "This joint effort demonstrates our shared commitments to ensure that yesterday's consumer electronics do not become tomorrow's contaminated garbage."

Residents may bring their used computers, monitors, printers, VCRs, scanners, copiers, fax machines, DVD players, and cell phones. All brands of used computers and electronic equipment, up to 5 items per car, will be accepted. The following items will not be accepted at this event: TVs, home appliances, household chemicals or other chemicals of any kind.

E.P.A. encourages local communities to increase their recycling collection efforts through participation in the Resource Conservation Challenge (RCC). For the latest news on the RCC, visit the RCC News Room. HP sponsors these events throughout the U.S. as part of its HP Recycling Days initiative and as a partner in EPA's Plug-In To eCycling plan. Through the Plug-In program, E.P.A. partners with retailers and electronics manufacturers to create more opportunities for consumers to conveniently recycle products in an environmentally responsible way.
