RICHLAND, Wash. - The D.O.E.'s Pacific Northwest National Lab has named Cathy Gee director of its Human Resources division. She will oversee functions including benefits, recruiting, diversity, staff development and training, and employee relations.

Gee joined PNNL in 2009 as a plan manager supporting PNNL'S Capability Replacement Lab project, a multi-year, multi-million dollar effort to build new facilities to replace in excess of half a million square feet of office and research space that had been housed in the 300 Area on the Hanford site. Since 2010, she has served as the manager of strategic planning and business analysis for the human resources, communications and science education divisions and has also been a member of the Laboratory's Research Operations Council, which provides PNNL senior management with recommendations for addressing issues and challenges.

"Cathy has demonstrated the ability to bring about strategic change to achieve our mission, vision and objectives, while also ensuring an inclusive, collegial, and collaborative work environment," said Associate Lab Director for Organizational Development Paula Linnen. "She has implemented robust talent management strategies and brings strategic thinking and leadership experience that will serve the organization well."

Prior to joining PNNL, Gee held senior positions at Bausch & Lomb, General Motors and the Exxon Mobil Chemical Company. She earned master's degrees in both management and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and a bachelor's degree in engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity," Gee said. "HR staff and capabilities are fundamental to attracting, engaging, and retaining the talented workforce necessary to achieve the Lab's mission outcomes. It is a privilege to steward these capabilities and I look forward to partnering with leaders throughout the Laboratory."
