Top D.O.E. Nuclear Energy Official in California to Discuss Global Nuclear Energy Partnership

WASHINGTON, DC - On Saturday, February 23, 2008, D.O.E. (DOE) Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Dennis R. Spurgeon will participate in a panel discussion on the timeliness of increasing nuclear power generation around the nation and globally at the California Science Center's special plan on nuclear energy. He is also expected to deliver a presentation on the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) an initiative launched in 2006 aimed at expanding the benefits of nuclear power worldwide.

GNEP has grown to 20 international partner nations at every stage of nuclear power development and is intended to help meet growing energy demand globally in a safe and secure manner, while at the same time reducing the risk of nuclear proliferation and responsibly managing spent nuclear fuel.
