NuStart Selected Through DOE's Nuclear Power 2010 Plan to Lead the Way
WASHINGTON, DC - On Tuesday, October 30, 2007, D.O.E. (DOE) Deputy Secretary Clay Sell will participate in a press conference to tout the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) project to submit a combined construction and operating license application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). TVA is the nation's biggest public power utility and a member of NuStart Energy, a consortium of nuclear energy companies selected through DOE's Nuclear Power 2010 Plan to demonstrate the NRC's new process for licensing new reactors in the United States. Today's announcement furthers the Administration's goals of expanding the use of nuclear energy by reducing the near-term barriers to new nuclear plant construction by providing financial and regulatory assistance.
