Public Meeting Next Week for Dover Municipal Landfill Superfund Location in Dover, N.H.

(Boston, Massachusetts - Feb. 4, 2009) - E.P.A. will hold a public informational meeting on Tues. Feb. 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Dover Community Services Building at 271 Mast Rd., Dover, N.H. to update the community on the ongoing and future cleanup at the Dover Municipal Landfill Superfund site.

Early this spring (April or early May), the vacuum extraction system in the northwest corner of the landfill will begin operation to remove an area of highly concentrated volatile contaminants in ground water, soil, and waste materials. It will operate over the summer, pausing for next winter, and begin operations for the following summer.

Also early this spring the Southern Plume pump-and-treat operation will resume operations after being suspended during the winter months following its 1st year of operation. The Southern Plume pump-and-treat system is intercepting ground water contaminants, preventing additional pollution and is restoring the ground water south of the landfill by removing contaminants from the ground water.

E.P.A. is currently evaluating source control options at the Location and hopes to have a decision regarding the work to be performed this summer. Sediment ecotoxicity samples will be collected this spring to ensure ecological health. The Agency is also evaluating the results of screening for potential risk to indoor air.
