WASHINGTON - E.P.A. (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy
will be in Taipei and Hanoi April 14-16 to highlight environmental cooperation between the U.S. and partners within the Asia-Pacific region, and to underscore the importance of environmental education.
While in Taiwan, Administrator McCarthy will meet with senior environmental authorities, other leading Taiwan authorities, and the American Institute in Taiwan. She will also deliver a keynote speech at National Taiwan University, launch a new partnership on environmental education and meet with members of the American business community in Taiwan.
Administrator McCarthy's visit to Taipei will advance regional and global cooperation under EPA's 20-year partnership with Environmental Protection Administration Taiwan (EPAT), which is conducted through the American Institute in Taiwan.
Following events in Taipei, Administrator McCarthy will travel to Hanoi, where she will meet with Vietnam's Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and deliver keynote remarks at Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment. She will also meet with business leaders and environmental stakeholders in the region.
Administrator McCarthy's visit will underscore the importance of local and community engagement in protecting natural resources. Vietnam is an active and valued participant in multiple regional environmental initiatives that E.P.A. helps organize.
During both visits, Administrator McCarthy will note that EPA's efforts to make a visible difference in communities across the U.S. form the foundation for its international cooperation as well. By sharing best practices on environmental protection, the U.S. and its partners can assist each other in making environmental enhancements at the community level, where they matter most.
