E.P.A. Administrator McCarthy in Boston with Canada and Mexico for Commission on Environmental Cooperation

BOSTON, MA; WASHINGTON - On Tuesday and Wednesday, E.P.A. Administrator Gina McCarthy will host Mexican Environment Deputy Secretary Dr. Rodolfo Lacy Tamayo representing Secretary Juan José Guerra Abud and Canadian Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq in Boston for the 22nd Regular Session of the Council for the Commission on Environmental Cooperation (CEC).

The Council will discuss community resilience and adaptation to climate change and agree upon a new five-year strategic project for 2015-2020 as well as an operational project for 2015-2016. The Council will also declare the U.S., Mexican, and Canadian experts named as advisors to work with the Joint Public Advisory Committee to find opportunities to apply traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) to CEC's operations and policy. Furthermore, the Council will declare the Third round of the North American Partnership for Environmental Community Action (NAPECA) grants.

At the close of the meeting, Mexico will assume the rotating Chair of the CEC Council from the U.S. The CEC is an intergovernmental organization established by the United States, Canada, and Mexico under the North American Arrangement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), a side Arrangement to the North American Free Trade Arrangement (NAFTA).
