SAN FRANCISCO - The E.P.A. (EPA) today acknowledges 21 graduates from Hunters Point Family/Young Community Developers for completing E.P.A. Brownfield's Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training (EWD/JT) program. An awards ceremony honoring the graduates will be held at the University of California San Francisco Mission Bay Campus at 11:00 a.m.
Funded in part by a $200,000 grant from EPA, students of the Hunters Point Family training plan gained the certifications and expertise necessary to secure skilled "Green Jobs" in environmental cleanup and sustainable landscaping. Hunters Point Family also received backing from the San Francisco Department and Children, Youth, and Families and the Office of Workforce and Economic Development, as well as foundation and donor funding.
Students are unemployed or underemployed residents of the Bayview Hunters Point community who are interested in working on the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard location cleanup and native landscaping restoration plans for Pacific Gas & Electric and San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. This is the 3rd of 4 groups of Hunters Point Family students funded by this E.P.A. grant, and the 1st EWD/JT grant Hunters Point Family has received from EPA.
