ATLANTA - The E.P.A. (EPA) together with the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources (NCDENR) and the Multistate Environmental Response Trust will host a public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, in Navassa to provide an update on the EPA-led cleanup of the Kerr McGee Superfund Site. E.P.A. will provide an overview of the location contamination, review the current sampling effort and present the next steps planned for the cleanup.
EPA's goal is for the cleanup to be consistent with the community's vision for the future land use of the site. A key step in moving forward with the cleanup is receiving the public's feedback. E.P.A. will answer questions during the public meeting in order to understand residents' concerns.
The Natural Resource Trustees, which include representatives from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S.F.W.S. (FWS) and NCDENR, will also be on hand to discuss the difference between the cleanup effort, led by E.P.A. and NCDENR, and the restoration effort, led by the Natural Resource Trustees.
Lastly, representatives from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) will be present to answer health-related questions.

The Natural Resource Trustees released a scoping document (

The scoping document also describes concepts for restoring the resources, criteria for identifying suitable restoration projects, and an explanation of the restoration planning process. Comments will be accepted through November 4, 2015.
