E.P.A. suggests adding Valley Pike location in Riverside to Superfund cleanup list

CHICAGO (April 6, 2016) - E.P.A. today suggested adding a location known as Valley Pike VOCs in Riverside, Ohio, to the National Priorities List. The NPL is EPA's list of Superfund sites. Superfund is the federal plan that investigates and cleans up the most complex uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites in the country.

Valley Pike VOCs is a mixed industrial and residential location where groundwater -- contaminated with tetrachloroethylene, or PCE, and trichloroethylene, or TCE -- was discovered in 2013. E.P.A. is working with the State of Ohio to resolve issues which can occur when vapors from pollutants rise up from the soil and enter buildings. This can cause indoor air pollution, which can be harmful. So far, about 400 residences have been tested for vapor intrusion.

Information about suggested and final NPL sites is accessible on EPA's website: https://www.epa.gov/superfund/current-npl-updates-new-proposed-npl-sites-and-new-npl-sites.
