E.P.A. suggests Saint Regis Paper Co. Cleanup Plan; accepting comments
CHICAGO (March 30, 2016) -- E.P.A. is issuing a suggested project to clean up soil contamination in the residential areas at the Saint Regis Paper Co. location on the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation.
E.P.A. will hold an information session to further explain this suggested cleanup and a public meeting to provide an opportunity for public comment. The meetings will begin at two p.m., Saturday, April 9, at Cass Lake-Bena Elementary School, 154th Saint NW. Between March 28 and May 27, E.P.A. will accept public comments on the suggested plan, accessible for review at: www.epa.gov/superfund/st-regis-paper
The Agency will make its suggestion final only after reviewing all comments, which can be submitted as follows:
· By mail: Heriberto León, Community Involvement Coordinator, U.S. E.P.A. Region 5, Superfund Division (SI-7J), 77 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60604-3590
· Via the Web: www.epa.gov/superfund/st-regis-paper
· At EPA's public meeting, Saturday, April 9. After a brief presentation, E.P.A. officials will hold a public hearing to accept comments on the suggested cleanup plan. A court reporter will record all public comments.
· Via email: [email protected] or fax: 312-697-2754
EPA's recommended cleanup project includes removing contaminated soil from affected residential areas and replacing it with clean soil. Most of the soil will be managed and monitored at an on-site facility. A small amount of heavily contaminated soil may require disposal at an off-site facility.
For questions or special accommodations at the meeting, contact Heriberto León at [email protected] or call 312-886-6163
