ATLANTA - Today, the E.P.A. (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it will host a meeting to seek public comments and update community stakeholders on the status of the Kerr-McGee Chemical (Columbus, MS) Superfund Site.
The purpose of the meeting is to respond to questions involving the recent settlement with Kerr-McGee, how it affects the Multistate Trust, and the cleanup of the Columbus Site. Questions related to the status of claims filed by individuals with the Tronox Tort Trust should be directed to the Trust's helpline at

The community meeting will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Columbus Municipal School District (formerly Hunt Gymnasium), 924 20th Street North, Columbus, Mississippi, from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
The Kerr-McGee Chemical (Columbus, MS) Location is comprised of approximately 90 acres, and is located at 2300 North 14th Avenue in Columbus, MS. The facility was operational from approximately 1928 to 2003. While operational, Kerr-McGee manufactured pressure-treated railroad products such as wooden cross ties, switch ties, and timbers. The production processes at the Location utilized creosote and creosote coal tar solutions to produce pressure-treated wood products. The facility also used pentachlorophenol (PCP) for wood-treating from the 1950s until the mid-1970s.
