DALLAS - (April 1, 2015) A student from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville has received a research fellowship grant from the E.P.A. (EPA). E.P.A. issued fellowship grants to students pursuing environmental science or other related fields of study at universities and colleges across the nation.

"Supporting students in fields of environmental studies provides a continuous stream of specialists that will help us meet new environmental challenges," said E.P.A. Regional Administrator Ron Curry. "We are proud to support some of the most promising future contributors to the environmental field."

These grants were among $1.7 million given to 34 students nationwide through EPA's Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Fellowship program. The recipients are eligible to gain up to $20,700 a year of academic support and $8,600 to use for a summer internship. Previous fellows have gone on to become government researchers, engineers, university professors, and high school science teachers.

The GRO fellowship provides students with financial support, while giving them the opportunity to have a paid internship at an E.P.A. facility working with scientists in their field of study. The award-winning students are undergraduates entering their junior year.

For in excess of 30 years EPA's GRO Fellowship has provided students in environmental science related fields the tools to succeed not only in their undergraduate studies and internship, but also in their future careers. The GRO plan gives institutions the opportunity to grow and create a culture of excellence through their students.

The solicitation for the next round of GRO fellowships is now open for applications.
