DALLAS - (July 13, 2015) Saving water is becoming more and more important in our growing and changing world. Today, the E.P.A. recognized Synthetic Oils and Lubricants (SOLTEX) for inventing a new process that eliminates the use of water and reduces the use of hazardous chemicals in petroleum products.
"Every year companies design and develop innovative green chemistry technologies that will result in safer chemical use in the places where we work and live," said E.P.A. Regional Administrator Ron Curry. "The process created by SOLTEX can prevent 50 percent of hazardous waste a year and significantly lower operating cost."
The Houston based company and 5 other winners were acknowledged today at the 20th Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards ceremony in Washington D.C.

This new polybutene technology has the potential to reduce waste and conserve energy, while optimizing operational costs," said Tony Massoud, Chief Executive Officer of Soltex. EPA's Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge promotes research and development of less-hazardous alternatives to existing technologies that reduce or eliminate waste, particularly hazardous waste, in industrial production. An independent panel of technical experts convened by the American Chemical Society selected the winner's technologies. Winning technologies are responsible for annually reducing the use or generation of in excess of 826 million pounds of hazardous chemicals, saving 21 billion gallons of water, and eliminating 7.8 billion pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent delivers to air. These benefits are in addition to significant energy and cost savings by the winners and their customers.
