E.P.A. Declares $1 Million in Pollution Prevention Backing for Great Lakes States

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - The E.P.A. is announcing approximately $1 million in backing to support pollution prevention work in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

This competitive grant plan is for plans that reduce the environmental impact of local and regional businesses through hazardous-materials reduction, energy and water conservation, and other techniques. States and "instruments of a state," such as a state colleges and universities, are eligible to gain the grants, as are federally acknowledged tribes.

"The technical assistance provided by these grants will help businesses find opportunities to reduce or prevent pollution through cost-effective changes in production, operation and raw materials use," said Margaret M. Guerriero, director of the regional EPA's Land and Chemicals Division.
