DALLAS - (Feb. 23, 2016) The E.P.A. (EPA) is awarding a People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) grant to University of Arkansas students for their suggested plan to develop new, sustainable products and strategies.

"These students are doing just the kind of work that is so important for the future of our environment," said E.P.A. Regional Administrator Ron Curry. "These plans will introduce students and educators to solutions that protect health and the environment while spurring economic development."

Backing for the P3 competition is divided into 2 phases. Teams are selected to gain grants of up to $15,000 to fund the development of their projects, then teams compete for awards of up to $75,000 to further develop their designs and potentially bring them to the marketplace.

This year's teams are testing innovative ideas such as repurposing chemical byproducts from the mining industry into new concrete that helps inhibit the corrosion of steel and developing a food waste collection kiosk that will spur food waste to energy production in the local community.

EPA's P3 Plan is a unique college competition for designing solutions for a sustainable future. P3 offers students quality hands-on experience that brings their classroom learning to life.
