Xcel Energy and SunPower Partner to Build 50 MW PV Power Plant in Colorado

Xcel Energy, a U.S. based electricity and natural gas company, and SunPower Corp., a designer and manufacturer of solar systems, have signed a power purchase arrangement to build a 50-megawatt (MW) PV power plant in San Luis Valley, Colorado. Xcel Energy estimates that the electricity needs of approximately 13,500 average Colorado homes will be served by the plant. SunPower expects to start construction in 2015 and to achieve full commercial operation by the end of 2016.
