Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E), a utility distribution subsidiary of
Energy East Corporation serving 350,000 electricity customers in upstate New York, announced that it is teaming with
Community Energy Incorporated to offer its customers the option of purchasing electricity generated from new in-state wind energy sources. Under its
Catch the Wind program, customers can purchase 100-kWh blocks of
NewWind Energy each month for an extra $2.00 to $2.50 (2¢/kWh to 2.5¢/kWh), depending on the number of blocks purchased. The minimum purchase is 2 blocks per month, which is equivalent to one-third of an average residential customer's electricity usage. The extra charge for the wind energy will be added to the regular electricity bill of participating customers.
