President Obama has issued a memorandum directing Federal agencies to increase their use of renewable electricity to 20 percent by 2020. This memorandum comes as the deadline approaches for a 2005 congressional directive which charged Federal agencies with sourcing 7.5 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2013. The Federal Government holds agencies accountable for such goals through the use of yearly Office of Management and Budget Sustainability and Energy Scorecards, which can be viewed on the Federal Government's sustainability website. The administration is on track to meet its 2005 goal.
