California Approves $21 Million for Renewable Energy Plans

The California Energy Commission on March eleven approved $21 million in grants for energy innovation and efficiency programs. The plans include a range of renewable energy technologies including photovoltaic systems and bioenergy plans as well as energy storage.
Among the projects: the Energy Department's Lawrence Berkeley National Lab received $1.5 million for research to match locally accessible waste biomass resources in California with grid, industrial, building power and waste heat needs; and the Electric Power Research Institute, Inc., received $1 million to develop a tool to assess costs and benefits to help guide the optimization of energy storage projects.
