CHICAGO (Apr. 3, 2007) - E.P.A. Region 5, Indiana Department of Environmental Management and Lake Co. Solid Waste Management District will host a pair of informational sessions about recent environmental investigations at Lowell, Ind.'s, Feddeler Landfill, Tuesday, April 10. The meetings will be from three to five p.m. and seven to nine p.m. at the Lowell Public Library, 1505 E. Commercial Ave.

The Lowell location is a closed construction debris landfill that operated from 1971 until 2001. Public concerns about buried metal drums and air quality around the location prompted a series of investigations in 2006. EPA's excavation of 4 separate fill areas found no drums. An additional environmental monitoring effort is planned for this coming summer.

Representatives from all 3 agencies will be accessible at both sessions to answer questions about the investigations. For more information or to request special accommodations, contact E.P.A. Community Involvement Coordinator Janet Pope, (800) 621-8431, Ext. 30626, or [email protected].

  Green Tips
Check to see if your refrigerator is airtight by closing the refrigerator door on a piece of paper or a dollar bill so that the paper or bill is half in and half out. If you can pull the paper out easily, your refrigerator is leaking air and losing energy, and the door seal may need to be replaced.
