(Kansas City, Kan., Oct. 17, 2007) - A group of on-scene coordinators (OSCs) from the E.P.A. will showcase their mobile command post and its state-of-the-art integrated communications equipment tomorrow during an emergency communications event at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., from ten a.m. to four p.m.
The satellite dish and two-way radios in the vehicle allow E.P.A. Region seven OSCs to communicate with each other and other emergency responders when traditional phone lines are out. The mobile command post also includes a geographic information system computer used to produce maps for field work at emergency incidents. The vehicle is fitted with a telescoping camera on a mast. The camera can remotely photograph scenes from a distance of a quarter mile from the command post. The resulting remote photographs provide detailed information from a safe distance.
Other participating agencies include Johnson Co. Emergency Communications, Shawnee Police Department, and Unified Government Emergency Management. The other agencies will also showcase their emergency vehicles and equipment during the event. The agencies will share information, resources and knowledge useful for responding to future emergencies.
WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, ten a.m. to four p.m.
WHERE: Kansas Speedway Infield, 400 Speedway Blvd., Kansas City, Kan.
