Clarification: E.P.A. to assess hazardous materials danger in Indiana floods

(Note to correspondents: A June 20 E.P.A. news release No. 08-OPA111 stated that E.P.A. will begin work in 37 flooded counties in Indiana. Actually, E.P.A. will begin work in 30 flooded counties.)
(Chicago, Ill. - June 20, 2008) E.P.A. Region five today will begin to assess hazardous materials, oil, orphan containers and sites that potentially present an imminent danger to health or the environment in flooded counties in Indiana. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has funded E.P.A. with $150,000 to conduct the assessments in 30 counties. E.P.A. stands ready to provide technical assistance in other flooded parts of the state at the request of the state or FEMA.
As with any flooding situation, E.P.A. recommends that residents avoid contact with floodwater. More E.P.A. advice about floods is accessible at:
