(Lenexa, Kan., March 7, 2016) - On Tuesday, March 8, E.P.A. Region seven will join city, Co. and state governmental agencies from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska, and the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists to host the Tenth Yearly Region seven Radon Conference in Nebraska City, Neb.

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016
WHERE: Lied Lodge and Conference Center, 2700 Sylvan Road, Nebraska City, Neb. 68410
WHO: Representatives from E.P.A. Region 7, Iowa Department of Public Health, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, and American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists.
There is no charge to attend the conference, which is designed to bring stakeholders together to discuss and understand radon issues and allow opportunities to share, educate and network. Anyone who has a stake in protecting the public from unnecessary exposure to radon in their homes, schools and businesses is welcome to attend. Agencies are working together to create a risk reduction project for radon that will help save lives and create safer and healthier homes.
Each year about 21,000 Americans die from lung cancer caused by exposure to radon. Testing is the only way to know if your home has an elevated level of radon. The U.S. Surgeon General and E.P.A. recommend taking action to fix your home if the radon level is four picocuries per Liter (pCi/L) of air or more. You should contact a qualified radon mitigation contractor if your test result is four pCi/L or more.
