EPA, CBP declare results from inspections at ports resulting in hundreds of vehicles seized and exported, significantly reducing air pollution

E.P.A. will also conduct a live inspection of new imports

LOS ANGELES - On Thursday, U.S. E.P.A. Regional Administrator Jared Blumenfeld will join the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to declare the conclusion of a 90 day pilot partnership that resulted in in excess of 730 items being seized or exported out of the country for violating federal standards, resulting in a significant reduction of harmful air emissions from polluting the United States. The pilot partnership conducted between E.P.A. Region nine and CBP from June-September 2014 was created to hold importers of foreign-made vehicles and equipment accountable for complying with the EPA's Clean Air Act and CBP's regulatory authority on merchandise importation, re-export, seizure and forfeiture of unlawful products entering the U.S.

E.P.A. inspectors will be at the location conducting a live inspection of new imports that entered through the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
