BOSTON - 2 corporations headquartered in Connecticut are among 17 awardees nationwide acknowledged by E.P.A. for climate action.

Pitney Bowes Corporation and United Technologies Corporation were both selected by E.P.A. acknowledged for their Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management Goal Achievement. Pitney Bowes (Stamford, Conn.) reduced global absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 15 percent from 2012 to 2014, and United Technologies Corporation (Hartford, Conn.) reduced global absolute GHG emissions 27 percent from 2006 to 2014.

EPA's Climate Leadership Awards recognize organizations from across the U.S. for their leadership and innovation in helping fight climate change. Winners are recognized for managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in internal operations and throughout the supply chain, as well as integrating climate resilience into their operating strategies. This is the 5th year of the yearly Climate Leadership Awards, a partnership between the EPA's Center for Corporate Climate Leadership, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions and The Climate Registry.

"Our Climate Leadership Award winners are going above and beyond through their outstanding actions and dedication to reduce harmful carbon pollution that leads to climate change," said E.P.A. Administrator Gina McCarthy. "Our award winners are leading the way towards a healthy environment, and demonstrate that meeting challenges of a changing climate can be done."

"These New England companies are great corporate role models, showing that taking positive action to address climate concerns goes hand-in-hand with everyday business practices. By managing and reducing their global greenhouse gas emissions they help to enhance air quality and to reduce the impacts from climate change," said Curt Spalding, regional administrator for EPA's New England region.

EPA's Center for Corporate Climate Leadership establishes requirements of climate leadership by encouraging organizations with emerging climate objectives to identify and achieve cost-effective greenhouse gas emission reductions, while helping more advanced organizations drive innovations in reducing their greenhouse gas impacts in their supply chains and beyond. The Center provides technical tools, guidance, educational resources, and opportunities for information sharing and peer exchange among organizations interested in reducing the environmental impacts associated with climate change.
