Sea-Tac Airport Unveils Clean Electrification Plan

Washington's Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), along with partners Alaska Airlines and the Energy Department's Western Washington Clean Cities Coalition announced on March 18 a new plan providing nearly 600 electric charging stations throughout the airport for ground support equipment. Converting baggage tugs, bag ramps, and pushback vehicle from fossil fuel to electric is projected to save $2.8 million in airline fuel costs and 10,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The airport has installed bright yellow charging corrals with smart, fast-charging plug-ins for vehicles and smart technology to determine which vehicle needs the most charge. Alaska Airlines will add 204 electric vehicles in operation on the ground at Sea-Tac.
