THURSDAY PRESS CALL: E.P.A. Convenes Local Government Advisory Committee in Atlanta to Weigh in on Suggested Water Rule

ATLANTA - On Thursday, July 10, E.P.A. Region four will hold a press conference call to discuss a meeting of the Agency's Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC). LGAC's Protecting America's Waters Workgroup will convene in Atlanta to discuss a suggested rule clarifying Clean Water Act (CWA) jurisdiction.

EPA's suggested rule, released on Mar. 25, 2014, is anticipated to have a large impact on local officials who are often in charge of implementing CWA provisions. Due to the scope of the suggested rule, the public review period was recently extended by an additional 90 days to Oct. 20, 2014.

Ellen Gilinsky, Senior Policy Advisor, E.P.A. Office of Water;

Mayor Bob Dixson, Greensburg, KS, and Chair of LGAC Workgroup (by phone); and
Sue Hann, City Manager, Palm Bay, FL, and Chairwoman, LGAC's Protecting America's Waters Workgroup.

LGAC has been charged by E.P.A. Administrator Gina McCarthy to give advice and recommendations on important issues affecting local elected and appointed officials. LGAC has made formal recommendations to E.P.A. on issues ranging from climate change resiliency and air quality to worker protection standards.
