Press Conference in Chicago Monday to Release the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Strategy

(Washington, D.C.-Dec. 9, 2005) E.P.A. Administrator Stephen L. Johnson will join other federal, state, local and tribal officials to unveil the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Strategy at Summit II in Chicago on Monday, Dec. 12. Over the past year, in excess of 1,500 people from throughout the Great Lakes basin participated on 8 strategy teams to develop the recommendations that form the basis of the strategy. The strategy was devised as directed by President George W. Bush's Executive Order 12240 (May 18, 2004) which acknowledged the countrywide significance of the Great Lakes and created a Great Lakes Regional Collaboration. Summit I was held on Dec. 3, 2004, in Chicago with conveners representing the federal government and Great Lakes states, cities, tribes and public interest groups as well as the region's congressional delegation.

Representatives from the Collaboration will speak and then sign a resolution. A press conference will follow.

When: Monday, Dec. 12, 2005
Summit II is from one - 2:30 p.m. Press conference begins at 2:30 p.m.

Where: John G. Shedd Aquarium, Phelps Auditorium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Dr.

Check-in: Media representatives should enter through the south entrance. TV crews may park at the "bus turnaround" outside that entrance.
