E.P.A. Suggests Vienna Wells Location for Superfund's National Priorities List

(Kansas City, Kan., March 3, 2010) - The E.P.A. is announcing its suggestion to add the Vienna Wells Location in Vienna, Mo., to the federal Superfund National Priorities List (NPL). An NPL listing notifies the public that E.P.A. believes a Location requires further study and possible cleanup under EPA's Superfund program.
The Vienna Wells Location consists of 3 public drinking wells in which tetrachloroethylene, known as PCE, has been detected. PCE is widely used for dry-cleaning fabrics and metal degreasing operations.
Adding this Location to the National Priorities List will make the Location eligible for federal funds to comprehensively investigate and address Location contamination. These funds also guarantee the public an opportunity to fully participate in cleanup decisions.
The E.P.A. Headquarters
Web Location maintains documents which support the Agency's suggestion to add the Location to the NPL. With the suggestion of this Location to the NPL, a 60-day review period begins during which E.P.A. solicits public input regarding this action. The review period is open from March four to May 3, 2010, and comments may be submitted online by following the instructions given at
www.regulations.gov.
