(Boston-March 1, 2010) The Kennebec Sanitary Treatment District (KSTD) Wastewater Treatment Plant of Waterville, Maine was recently selected by E.P.A. for a Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.

The staff of KSTD, led by Timothy LeVasseur, Superintendent, was acknowledged by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in operating and maintaining the plant. The plant was among 6 facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2009. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was instrumental in nominating this facility. Besides, Tim LeVasseur, KSTD staff include:

Arnold Hanscom, Cynthia Chase, Nancy Green, Carl Leathers, Lonny Lyons, Timothy Mercer, Peter Sherwood, John Symonevich, Derek Vigue, Richard Vigue, Mark Wentworth, Ronald White, and Lynn Woodard.

In addition KSTD has been provided with outstanding support from their Board of Trustees over the years, who currently include:

John Hamelin, David Cosgrove, David Dostie, Peter Deane, Gary Dixon, Albert Hodsdon III, Robert Nadeau, Thomas Shattuck, Percy Smith, and Jack Stanley, Jr.

"The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our environment healthy," said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to give them the credit they deserve."

The E.P.A. Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor the employees of publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality with outstanding plant operations and maintenance and on-going operator training. More often than not and particularly with the smaller facilities, conscientious operators and staff continue to perform exceptionally with limited resources.

KSTD was acknowledged on January 27th at the yearly New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston.
