(Boston-March 1, 2010) The Essex Junction, Vermont Wastewater Treatment Plant was recently selected by E.P.A. for a Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.
The staff of Essex Junction, Vermont Wastewater Treatment Plant, led by James Jutras, Water Quality Superintendent, and Bernard Fleury, Assistant Chief Operator, was acknowledged by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in operating and maintaining the plant. The plant was among 6 facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2009. The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation was instrumental in nominating this facility.
Besides, James Jutras and Bernard Fleury, Essex Junction staff includes: Operators Howard Kimball, Bill Boccio and Paul Douglass, as well as part time administrative staff Madeleine Barry and Joyce Stannard. The support of the Village Trustees, Village Manager and participating communities of Essex Junction, Essex and Williston has also been instrumental to the successful operation of the facility.
"The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our environment healthy," said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to give them the credit they deserve."
The E.P.A. Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor the employees of publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality with outstanding plant operations and maintenance and on-going operator training. This plan has found that particularly with the smaller facilities, conscientious operators and staff continue to perform exceptionally well with limited resources.
The Essex Junction, Vermont Wastewater Treatment Plant was acknowledged on January 27th at the yearly New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston.
