(Atlanta, Ga. - September 23, 2009) The E.P.A. (EPA) today acknowledged Delta Air Lines' maintenance division, Delta TechOps, as the newest environmental steward to join the National Partnership for Environmental Priorities (NPEP). As an E.P.A. partner, Delta TechOps will change some of its engineering processes to eliminate the use of lead. To date, Delta TechOps has sent 7,000 pounds of lead to be safely recycled, eliminating a potential toxic pollutant from posing a risk to human health and the environment.

"We commend Delta TechOps for its commitment to reducing lead pollution from their engineering processes," said E.P.A. Acting Regional Administrator Stan Meiberg. "Voluntary partnerships like this are an essential way of advancing environmental protection."

"The men and women of Delta TechOps are committed to bettering requirements of living and improving the environment of the communities they live and work in," said Tony Charaf, president, Delta TechOps.

E.P.A. formed the NPEP to pursue the goal of reducing the use or release of 31 highly toxic, priority chemicals found in America's manufacturing processes. It has established a National Waste Minimization Goal to act as a measurement of plan success. The goal is to work with industry and the public to reduce the use or release of four million pounds of priority chemicals by 2011.
