Idle reduction (IR) in heavy-duty trucks makes good business sense. Reducing idling can lower fuel consumption, which in turn lowers fuel costs. It also lessens engine wear, which lowers maintenance costs. Other benefits include better health (lowering diesel emissions and noise), U.S. energy security (cutting use of imported petroleum), and compliance with local regulations.
Researchers estimate that using IR technologies in the U.S. could reduce diesel fuel use by 838 million gallons per year. That translates to at least $1.4 billion saved.
Find out how truckers can use auxiliary power units, truck stop electrification, and other methods for cab heating, cooling, electrical power, and to keep their engines warm and their batteries charged. Plus, learn about incentives and backing opportunities for IR plans and read IR success stories. All this information and more can be accessed from the Clean Cities Idle Reduction web page.
