Bank of America announced on June seven that it will offer $3,000 rebates to employees who buy hybrid vehicles. The bank is the biggest U.S. company to offer such incentives. Online search company Google Inc., and insurer Saint Paul Travelers, Inc., are among other U.S. companies that offer employees incentives to buy hybrids.

"This is a very genuine effort to do the right thing," said Anne Finucane, Bank of America's global marketing chief. "To do it at Bank of America, it's a formidable commitment."

The bank's plan covers some 21,000 employees working in or near Los Angeles, Boston, and Charlotte, North Carolina, where Bank of America is headquartered. It ranks No. one in deposit share in all 3 markets.

It is estimated that together with tax credits, the rebates will save employees in excess of $6,000 per vehicle.
